In this video you can see drill used by the coach to repeat proper lateral movement and automate the execution. Drill goes like this: Goalie stors to come out a bit more to the catch side lining himself up with the marker puck the coach has set > Goalies starts backing in > Short svae movement to the ”imaginary” shot on the ice just a little off center to the catch side (it’s good for coach to set a focus puck for this move as well) > Then the goalie quickly executes butterfly slide to the other side to make a save on actual shot. The whole time coach is keeping an eye on these things: Proper body position when going down to the save, turning of the body, moving the whole ”package” to same direction, finsihig the pushes and avoiding reach only saves.
