Another Victim of VH stance

Postby Cubanpuckstopper » Thu Sep 30, 2010 5:55 pm

In this SM-Liiga game, the TPS goalie finds himself victim of a VH move, (or split stance or Post Leg Up positioning as others call it).

At 1:15 into the video clip the goalie assumes a VH stance, which turns into a paddle down chase across the crease. The video contains multiple replays of the goal.

Some goals I consider VH goals in this year's Stanley Cup Playoffs.

The King opens up his kingdom through a hole in a VH, at 2:40 into the clip (good slo-mo follows the goal)

Jonathan Quick, I think a step up would have been a better move in this circumstance

Fleury at 4:15, this looks like an attempted VH, that never gets fully set.

Neuvirth at makes himself really small 1:20 into this clip.

From the game of 25/2/2013 - Toronto-Philadelphia

Yet another example of the VH costing a goal. Bryzgalov makes himself look small, and not appearing squared from the waist down in his VH proved costly.

And if Bryz does make the save with his right pad, where is the likely spot for the rebound to go?

Yeah... Deployed incorrectly in a situation where another save selection was more appropriate. From my understanding of the technique, anyway.

Also, shaky execution. Right pad was too flat, parallell to (more like on TOP of) the goal line, allowing the far side goal. This is a problem I have when I try this -- I don't get rotated outward enough to be square to the puck. (Did I say that in a way that made sense?)

I understand Bryz' temptation to use that technique in that situation, though. I can sometimes feel myself kind of default to it, as I feel for the post on a quick rush down the boards. Better positional awareness (relative to the net) as the play progresses, is likely the answer for a beer-leaguer like me.
