Good article from larry sadler who did spend a couple of weeks in Finland this summer and has been studying goaltending development in several other countries too.

He is also bringing up a very serious point for us Finns how our association is still basing all goalie development work on volunteer folks while other countries are hiring full time goalie coaches to run programs. Sad that association could not make Petri Tuononen a full time employee.

So we have a good situation today, but if we don't do something to further develop our programs, other countries will catch up and/or pass us.

Rather than start a new thread, I will follow up here. Below is an interview with Kari Ramo.

Within the interview he references Sweden's ability to production of top goaltenders.

Ramo: "Funny. But nowadays we'd lose this title to Sweden. But Finland is a good country for hockey, many good goalie prospects come from there because they know how to train and develop them. In the NHL there is plenty of goalie stars from Finland, young players watch at them. It's good to have such examples just in front of you and I hope that in the future Finland will keep on having so many young talents in this position.
