Multipurpose Hurdle Plans

Postby Cubanpuckstopper » Thu May 28, 2009 2:57 pm

For our Bantams (essentially 14, 15 year olds) on up, I have asked each family to make six of the following hurdles for dryland training. These hurdles can serve as mini hurdles, full size hurdles, and form an agility ladder

The image below describes how to make them.

Current cost should be 4 tees @ .24 = .96, 2 elbows @ .18 = .36, 1 10 ft pipe 1/2 inch diameter = 1.20 for a total cost of $2.52 per hurdle.

It is important to allow the mini portion of the hurdle to collapse by lubricating, do not glue.

In the past two seasons I have had only one player nick his shin do to a lack of coordination/"heavy feet" when stepping through hurdles, otherwise these have been injury free.

Not to be negative, but you would be amazed at how many parents buy the most expensive equipment but will not take it upon themselves to make these hurdles.

I must be one of those lazy people  then as I am still buying the hurdles I use and actually use them alot with my goalies.

I never tried making a ladder with the tees. A very good idea. I bought a ladder, but made my own hurdles. (not that I've used them a lot lately  )

I prefer spray silicon as the lubricant. It's clean and doesn't collect dirt. I have it on hand for my slide board and skate sharpener.
