NHL saapuu Suomeen!

Postby raZor » Thu Feb 19, 2009 8:13 pm

Avasinpa heti ketjun tälle kun törmäsin tuohon uutiseen.

Todella hienoa, että NHL saapuu suomeen, ihka oikeita NHL pelejä nyt pelataan, ei mitään viime vuosien harjoituspelejä. Ihan must päästä katsomaan!

Helsingissä pelataan kaksi NHL-jääkiekkoliigan runkosarjan ottelua lokakuussa.

Chicago Blackhawks ja Florida Panthers avaavat kautensa Helsingin Areenalla 2. ja 3. lokakuuta, kertoo NHL nettisivuillaan.

Samoina päivinä peräti kahdeksan ruotsalaispelaajan Detroit Red Wings ja St. Louis Blues kohtaavat Tukholmassa.

Suomessa ei ole aiemmin pelattu NHL-runkosarjaa.

Floridan ainoa suomalaispelaaja on Ville Peltonen - Chicagolla on miehistössään varamaalivahti Antti Niemi

Four NHL Teams To Open 2009-10 Season In Europe Oct. 2-3

"NHL Premiere 2009" Features Chicago Blackhawks And Florida Panthers Playing Twice In Helsinki; Detroit Red Wings And St. Louis Blues Playing Two Games In Stockholm"

New York/Toronto/Stockholm/Helsinki (February 19, 2008) – The National Hockey League (NHL) and the National Hockey League Players’ Association (NHLPA), in cooperation with Live Nation Sweden, IMG Sweden and Hartwall Areena/Jokerit in Finland, announced today that the Detroit Red Wings, St. Louis Blues, Chicago Blackhawks and Florida Panthers will open the 2009-2010 NHL regular season in Europe.

The Blackhawks and Panthers will play homeand- home games Friday, Oct. 2, and Saturday, Oct. 3, in Helsinki, Finland, at Hartwall Arena. On those same dates, the Red Wings and Blues will play a home-and-home series at Globe Arena in Stockholm, Sweden. Finland and Sweden are the top ranked countries in terms of overseas visitors to NHL.com.

The roster of the defending Stanley Cup champion Detroit Red Wings currently is comprised of numerous Swedish players – including captain Nicklas Lidstrom, 2008 Conn Smythe Trophy winner Henrik Zetterberg, Johan Franzen, Tomas Holmstrom and Niklas Kronwall. The Blues boast a dynamic Swedish player of their own in center Patrik Berglund, a first-round draft pick of the team in 2006 and participant in the 2009 NHL YoungStars Game on the rookie team.

The Chicago Blackhawks will be playing in Europe for the first time in 17 years. The franchise played a two-game exhibition series against the Montreal Canadiens at London’s Wembley Arena in September, 1992. NHL Premiere 2009 will be the first games ever played outside of North America by the Florida Panthers organization and the first regularseason NHL games played in Finland.

"The NHL Premiere games are a signature event for the League, our players and our fans," said NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman. "Playing regular-season games overseas is an excellent way to further engage the passionate NHL fan base in Europe and encourage the growth of the game of hockey."

"The 2009 Premiere games continue an important tradition of showcasing NHL players to an international audience," said Paul Kelly, NHLPA Executive Director. "Our members look forward to displaying their skills in front of the knowledgeable and enthusiastic hockey fans in Finland and Sweden."

The NHL opened the 2008-09 regular season in Europe in front of capacity crowds when the New York Rangers and Tampa Bay Lightning played two games in Prague, Czech Republic, and the Pittsburgh Penguins and Ottawa Senators squared off in a two-game set in Stockholm. The Anaheim Ducks and Los Angeles Kings opened the 2007-08 NHL regular season in front of two sellout crowds at O2 Arena in London. Previously, the NHL hosted three successful Game One events in Japan in 1997, 1998 and 2000. A complete overseas history of the NHL is available on media.nhl.com.

More information on NHL Premiere 2009 will be released at a later date, including ticket information, broadcast information, training camp schedules and preseason schedules.

Stockholm, Helsinki Beckon Blackhawks, Panthers, Wings, Blues

Niklas Kronwall knew the 2008 NHL Premiere Stockholm would be a huge deal in his home city, which is why the Detroit defenseman was kind of bummed to learn the Red Wings weren't one of the teams participating.

"I wish we were one of those teams going to Stockholm," Kronwall told NHL.com last spring. "That would have been awesome to be playing in Globe Arena."

Kronwall's wish was granted this morning when the NHL and its Players' Association announced the teams and cities for the 2009 NHL Premiere.

The Wings, who currently sport a 26-man roster that includes eight Swedes, are going to Stockholm and, yes, they're going to play in Globe Arena.

Detroit will open the 2009-10 regular season with a pair of games in Stockholm against the St. Louis Blues on Oct. 2 and 3.

The Chicago Blackhawks and Florida Panthers will play the same dates at Hartwall Arena in Helsinki, Finland.

This is the third-straight season the NHL has played regular-season games in Europe. It's the first time the League has played regular-season games in Finland, though the Pittsburgh Penguins played an exhibition game in Helsinki this past September before opening this season against the Ottawa Senators at Globe Arena.

The New York Rangers and Tampa Bay Lightning also opened this season in Prague. The Anaheim Ducks and Los Angeles Kings became the first NHL teams to play regular-season games overseas, opening the 2007-08 season in London.

"The NHL Premiere games are a signature event for the League, our players and our fans," NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman said. "Playing regular-season games overseas is an excellent way to further engage the passionate NHL fan base in Europe and encourage the growth of the game of hockey."

"The 2009 Premiere games continue an important tradition of showcasing NHL players to an international audience," added NHLPA Executive Director Paul Kelly. "Our members look forward to displaying their skills in front of the knowledgeable and enthusiastic hockey fans in Finland and Sweden."

For the Red Wings, barring roster moves between now and the start of next season, the NHL Premiere will be a chance for Kronwall, Nicklas Lidstrom, Henrik Zetterberg, Johan Franzen, Andreas Lilja, Mikael Samuelsson, Tomas Holmstrom and Jonathan Ericsson to sport the winged wheel in their home country.

"For the Swedish people, Detroit for sure is one of the teams they keep track of," Samuelsson told NHL.com. "There haven't been any more Swedes on a team than this team has."

The lone Swede on the Blues roster is Patrik Berglund, who is from Lidstrom's hometown of Vasteras.

"I think it’s a great thing for hockey in general, especially for the NHL to kind of spread its wings and go to other countries to market the game," Kronwall said. "NHL hockey is so different from the hockey that is being played at home. I don't think people realize that. It doesn't matter how much you watch on TV, you need to see it live to be able to experience that big difference."

The Hawks and Panthers are currently represented by only one Finn each. Florida forward Ville Peltonen and Hawks' backup goalie Antti Niemi, who is with the team now due to Nikolai Khabibulin's lower body injury, are from Vantaa, which borders Helsinki.

That won't limit the excitement, though.

"I think it's pretty cool to go over there," Hawks defenseman Duncan Keith told NHL.com. "I've never been to Finland so that's neat in itself to visit that part of Europe and see what it's like over there. I think it's good the NHL does that to showcase our game over there to Finland and all the different countries that love hockey."

Statement From Team President John McDonough On "NHL Premiere 2009"

Chicago Blackhawks Team President John McDonough released the following statement after the Blackhawks were selected as one of four teams to participate in “NHL Premiere 2009,” which launches the 2009-10 regular season:

"The Blackhawks organization is proud to have been invited by the National Hockey League to open the 2009-10 regular season in Finland. The games in Helsinki mark the franchise's first trip to Europe since playing in London 17 years ago, so we are extremely flattered to be a part of the Premiere games next season. This experience will enable us to continue to build our Blackhawks brand and expose our exciting young team to an International audience."

The Blackhawks and Florida Panthers will play home-and-home games at Hartwall Arena in Helsinki, Finland, on Fri., Oct. 2 and Sat., Oct. 3, to help kick off the 2009-10 NHL regular season. On those same dates, the Detroit Red Wings and St. Louis Blues will play a home-and-home series at Ericsson Globe Arena in Stockholm, Sweden.
