This is another one of my favorite topics and also something that I practice with my goalies very often. It is a key that goalie stays alert and is able to follow the puck while the opponents are creating screens.
If the goalie develops good habits and alert working routines one can have a very good feel for the puck even when it is not possible to always see it.
In this example video my goalie also demonstrates 2 very important topics:
- He is using active hands and making the save in front of his body instead of just blocking the puck and giving big juicy rebounds. Hands in front also helps him to cover more net.
- He is looking for an opportunity to play the puck immediately after the catch. In this case our team was killing a penalty and if he could have played the puck to our defenseman we could have taken several seconds off the clock.
